I am walking to raise funds for pancreatic cancer because it is a cause close to my heart with my Mum being diagnosed late in 2022.
With staistics of just 3 out of 10 people surviving 12 months after diagnosis, it was hard news to absorb. But after reacting well to chemotherapy and successful recent surgery, the future is looking much brighter. I hope if ever faced with a similar situation, I would have the resilience and fight that she has had. Amazing 🩷
Early-stage pancreatic cancer rarely causes signs or symptoms, which can make it difficult to diagnose. That is why PanKind, The Australian Pancreatic Cancer Foundation are working towards a breakthrough in early detection while also supporting patients and carers through information and resources, and advocating for better patient outcomes.
The statistics highlight the problem of pancreatic cancer. We believe they are unacceptable, which is why we have made it our mission to drastically improve survival rates and quality of life for people impacted by pancreatic cancer.
• Pancreatic cancer is the 3rd biggest cancer killer in Australia in 2022 (1).
• In 2022, it is estimated 3,531 people will die from pancreatic cancer in Australia (1).
• In 2022, it is estimated 4,534 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer (1).
• In 2022, it is estimated pancreatic cancer will be the 8th most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia (1).
• The Australian five-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer is 12.2% (1).
• Only 3 out of 10 people (35.5%) will survive one year after diagnosis of pancreatic cancer (1).
